The Collingwood Football Club has appointed highly credentialed football administrator Geoff Walsh to the role of General Manager of Football.

Walsh brings with him more than 30 years’ experience in football, including eight seasons at the Pies from 2006 to 2013 where he oversaw one of the club’s most successful periods that culminated in the 2010 premiership flag.

Walsh has also held senior roles at Carlton, Fitzroy and North Melbourne, and is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished administrators in the game.

“We are delighted to welcome Geoff back to the club,” Collingwood CEO Gary Pert said.

“’Walshy’ not only has a great knowledge of football, but an intrinsic knowledge of Collingwood, its people and its history, which is particularly relevant as we head into our 125th year.”

“Geoff understands what is required to create a successful football environment. He played a pivotal role in building our last premiership team and under his watch the club featured in finals every year. I think that he is exactly the person Collingwood needs for a stable, seamless transition into 2017.”

“I know Nathan Buckley and the football department are looking forward to working alongside a man of Walshy’s experience and authority, as is our Board and administration team.”

Marcus Wagner will continue as interim GM Football until Walsh officially begins on December 12. Wagner will return to his role of Football Operations Manager which was recently broadened to oversee the VFL and AFLW programs in addition to the men’s program.
